EASA Multi Engine Instrument Rating


The aim of the course

The aim of the Multi Engine Instrument Rating Conversion course is to train holders of a pilot licence issued in accordance with Part-FCL.605 IR to exercise the privileges of their licence under IFR with a multi-engine piston class aeroplane.

Pre-entry requirements

Minimum ageThe minimum age is 18 years of age
Educational requirementsNo formal academic qualifications are required,
however, students will benefit from a having
a basic understanding of Maths and Physics.
Medical requirementsTrainees must hold valid medical certificate issued in
accordance with Part-MED with an extension for IR operations.
General requirementsBefore participating the applicant must be
demonstrate evidence of all following items:
• At least valid PPL(A) with IR(A)/SEP rating
• Valid MEP class rating
Language requirementsA student must demonstrate evidence of English
language proficiency equivalent to at least ICAO Level 4.

Flying training

The flying training shall comprise a total of at least 5 hours of dual flight instruction and 10 hours of ground briefing. During this training there is no such part to be completed as solo flight(s).

Theoretical training

The theoretical knowledge instruction includes long briefings, and directed private study.
This course consists of 10 hours of briefings with no specific theoretical training.

The time scale 

The Multi Engine Instrument Rating Conversion course will be conducted either full-time or part-time to suit candidate requirements.

Full-time courses will operate 5 days a week from 08:00 to 17:00 or later. The course is expected to take a minimum of 33 days but is subject to weather.

Part-time course are expected to take a minimum of 33 working days. The course will integrate the ground briefings, and airborne exercises as shown in Table 3. Under normal circumstances exercises beyond the duration of 1 hours might not be merged or carried out with their preceding on the same working day
